Krista called us because the insulation in her crawlspace was falling down more and more, year after year. She had purchased more insulation to try to fix the old, and it still continued to fall. The reason the insulation in a crawlspace will fall down is due to moisture being absorbed into the insulation making it heavy and then causing it to fall. It's like a big sponge absorbing all the moisture in the crawlspace. In order to fix this problem, you have to fix the cause of the problem. Falling insulation is a symptom of a damp crawlspace. In order to stop the insulation from falling you need to control the moisture. The proper way to do this is with a continuous, heavy-duty vapor barrier like our patented CleanSpace 20 mil vapor barrier. This seals out the moisture from the earth and allows us to start working towards a properly sealed, healthy crawlspace. The next step was to remove all the old nasty fiberglass insulation and apply 2 inches of closed-cell spray insulation to the foundation walls and rim joist to stop outside air infiltration, We then installed a sealed, insulated door and of course, last but not least, the worlds most efficient dehumidifier, the SaniDry Sedona to keep the humidity exactly where we want it.
