We received a call from a realtor who had just helped a couple purchase a house that they absolutely loved. However, the crawlspace was in nasty shape and they knew it when they bought it. The beam was rotting and improperly supported on a stack of scrap blocking. The moisture was beyond acceptable levels and someone had spray insulated the floor system in a desperate attempt to do something to reduce the moisture problems. Spraying the floor of a house with a vented, dirt crawlspace is one of the worst things you can do to your home. It will solve nothing and ultimately accelerate the decay and mold growth and in the end, it will increase the cost of repairs significantly. In this scenario we replaced the entire 31 foot long beam and installed all new supports under the beam. We then proceeded to install our patented CleanSpace Crawlspace system, with SmartSump system and of course, the SaniDry Sedona, the worlds most efficient dehumidifier. We will return to spray insulate the walls once the crawlspace dries out further. Luckily for the homeowner the floor joists were still in fair enough shape that they didn't need to replace them but if left the way it was, it would have certainly been much worse and much more expensive of a repair.
